Who was writing about the assembly line in 1906 when Henry Ford began to change the automobile industry with its utilization?
Who was writing about the jet airliner industry in the late 40's when Boeing and Douglas began cranking out aircraft for commercial travel and altering the transportation industry?
Who was writing about personal computers in the late 70's when Apple and Altair broke on the scene, to forever change how business would get done?
Here's the gig, John Battelle writes a fascinating glimpse into the history of search engines. He includes the companies and individuals who have and are forging the development of the Internet's most important ecosystem.
One glance at the book's cover and one quickly realizes what company John is partial to. That recognition by the way, registered in (0.04 seconds).
My observation today is not so much a review of the book as it is a spotlight on a very well written book that captures the birth of search engines through 2005 and how in the future I will reflect back to this period. In years to come, I can pull The Search from my bookshelf and read about the obstacles that Larry Page and Sergey Brin faced both at Standford University and later on as they built the Google dynasty. I will remember that I lived through this time period and in one place reacquaint myself with companies like Yahoo, Excite, Lycos and Microsoft, their leaders and the overall relationship with the search landscape.
John Battelle writes about the search industry now in the midst of its growth and evolution.
