To move forward we must create wonder.
Kathy Sierra of Creating Passionate Users posts a controversial essay titled Two Simple Words of Passion...Professional vs. Passionate. She begins by citing Kevin Briody of Seattleduck in a post he wrote titled Passion Starts with Two Simple Words. The two words are based upon the question, "How do you want them to talk about your product?" Kevin and Kathy say "F***ing Cool!"
There are so many good things happening with Kathy's essay here. She presents various points of view. Her style of writing is most excellent! The topic is so relevant. And the headliner cartoon? I vote for top ten post on that alone. I am ROTFLMAO!!!!
What captures my heart about the Professional vs. Passionate debate is what happens to elicit the remark. What did one do, or what product did one provide for someone to claim with passion, "F***king Cool?"
I once wrote a book review for a group of about 2,000 professionals that was really intended to be an advertisement. One week later the author told me he sold about twenty books with inquiries for thirty or so more. The appreciation that I received from him was so emotional that it made me cry. If you assumed by way of my reference to cowboy boots, motorcycles, muscle cars and Clint Eastwood movies that I am not one to easily weep. You'd be right. (That book by the way costs 130.00)
In search of the F-word comment Kevin says, "I want that pure sense of wonder, that kid-at-airshow-seeing-an-F16–on-afterburners-rip-by-so-close-it-makes-your-soul-shake reaction, that caress-the-new-Blackberry-until-your-friends-start-to-question-your-sanity experience. I want an irrational level of sheer, unfiltered, borderline delusional joy."
Is there a more noble quest? How much more motivation do we need to sell, create or provide something than that pure sense of wonder reaction? Come to think of it, isn't that what Creating Passionate Users is all about?
Yes, it is indeed. Kathy writes so well and so frequently, Creating Passionate Users has always been high on any referral listing I would make. I find it a inspirational!

I think selling is a transfer of feelings. So when you transfer that feeling and love for a product to another person who has the money to buy it then your sale is complete. Passionate people make great sales people.

I agree AS. And it doesn't matter what they're selling. Cars, perfume or countries :-)
