You and I have bore witness to the most destructive natural force ever to assault American soil. We see the devastation and injustices to humanity on CNN, our hearts ripped from our chests as we sit helpless in our living rooms. Many of us long to be there, long to pull someone out of the water, long to hand out a bottle of water, long to put our arms around our fellow Americans and try to provide comfort. Unfortunately we cannot be there. But we can help. We can donate to the American Red Cross.
A monetary donation, no matter the amount, is action. And what America and our stricken brothers and sisters need now is action and support. We need support for the individual local governments, for FEMA , for the American Red Cross , for the Department of Homeland Security, for the National Guard, Military and all the other organizations who are trying to help. We do not need criticism brought down on those who are trying to help. And, we do not need an environment of sensationalism from any source of media in this country - and that includes blogs.
Our country was hammered and forged from the blood, sweat and tears of those who wanted to live, to live in freedom and to create a better life. The bloodline of this desire runs deep in most Americans today. Steel yourselves, reach within and tap into it. Through our action and support, let's be there for America and our fellow Americans in need.
National Preparedness Month
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross had declared the month of September, National Preparedness Month. With the attention of America today, on the basic necessities that need addressed following Katrina, we might lose sight of the fact that hurricane season is not over. In addition, there are other events that we need to be prepared for.
If by donating to organizations like the American Red Cross doesn't quench your need for action, then I implore you to visit the American Red Cross Get Prepared site and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Get Prepared site. Go there, learn and take action! Point your fellow Americans to these sites as well!
The United States of America is the greatest country on Earth. As citizens of this great nation, it is our responsibility to take action and to support those in need. Donate today and Get Prepared for the future!
This post is in support of the Blog for Relief Weekend put together by Instapundit.com and The Truth Laid Bear . These fine two sites are encouraging bloggers to encourage others to donate to the charity of their choice. They ask that you take a moment and record your donation here.
