Putting People First

dave's log: cyberdate 12.27.2008

"Welcome back David!"

"Thanks Emma and thanks for keeping the crew together.  Whadda ya say we blow this pop stand?  Fire up Avelina."

"David!  Wait till you see what Emma has been up to!"

dave looks puzzled.  Avelina's voice is not coming from the Starship's audio system.  It is coming from behind him.  He turns, standing still in utter amazement.

"Emma!"

Emma has given Avelina a physical presence...and an English accent.  And Emma has given Avelina hair...wild, curly, bushy, long brunette hair.  She stands a slender yet stout five foot nine inches and appears to be about forty years old.  She wears simple makeup except for the pyramids.  A pyramid of white-ish blue outlined in black, lay on its side at the corner of each of Avelina's eyes.  It extends upon her temples to where her hair starts.  Emma has dressed Avelina in a very futuristic single piece, body suite that reveals perfectly designed female curvature.

"Emma, I'd like to ask what inspired your artwork here, but I suspect I would regret it."

"Today's destination David, is putting people first, located in the quadrant of Design."

dave watches as Avelina strolls across the command deck and takes a seat in front the navigation monitors. 

Emma revs the Starship's engines and drops her out of neutral.  With a whisper they land in Experentia, a global type community anchored in Italy.

Elle appears on deck and practically tackles dave with a bear hug.

"David!  It's soooo good to be back!  I was in my quarters when I picked up a strong signal from Mark Vanderbeeken.  He briefed me on what putting people first is about."

"It's great to be back Elle!  Emma tells me you have a boyfriend.  And though she didn't come right out and ask, I can tell she'd like for him to join us on missions."

"Could he David?  Eli is a writer.  His passion is to preserve today in writing, for tomorrow's readers.  He could record our missions!"

"Lets talk about it later Elle."

RadioBack Management Signals Fade

Bob goes.

Wild horses can be corralled...but you cannot corral their spirit.  dave can be four-walled and given the title of manager, but you cannot corral the Starship. As 2008 closes out, dave closes out the one year experiment as manager...though he has been a manager for over twenty years.  His spirit longs for wide open spaces.  He longs for Emma to engage the afterburners and blast him from a universe of mind-numbing, complacent status-quo.  He needs different, though he's not exactly sure just what that is. 

dave ponders on the management thing for just a moment.  Certain people excel in startups and then when the company takes off, they are better suited to turn over some responsibilities.  dave was a decent manager in one aspect.  He could protect his people from upper management better than most.  He devised systems and atmospheres of stimulation which were completly unknown to those who told him what to do.  But dave didn't do well with inexperienced staff that had to navigate shark infested political waters.  It comes back to the Starship's philosophy.

dave excelled when he could injest a vision, give direction, and then blast out to some quadrant and work on the overall improvement of the business's unit.  But entangle him within day to day operations that continued south, and he wilted.  His deteriorating body didn't help.

It's time for dave to engage Emma.  It's time for dave to patrol the edge.  It's time for dave to RadioBack signals of hope, determination and life outside the boundaries of the usual.  It's time for the Starship to fly once again...

Transplanted Long Hair

Note to future dave: You wrote the Long Hair piece and posted it on Rothacker Reviews.  You had even implanted the F-word.  But you worried about what people would think.

"Dude, wasn't that the piece's point?"

So you took it down from RR's and pasted it over here in RadioBack. 

Just thought I'd need an explanation as why I was writing stuff like this at RadioBack.  Or if my computer washed ashore in a hundred years, folks could figure out what I was doing.
